FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Family Markets CowChipShirts & Make It Into Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

Corry, PA  May 06, 2005 -  Last summer when Patti Froman Maine began reminiscing with her brother Sonny Froman, they remembered helping their parents with chores.

"We always wound up with manure on our clothes and once touched by manure, the stain was there to stay" said Patti

That memory was the spark that led them to the idea of making and selling one of a kind CowChipShirts.

Within hours of their innovative notion, they stood at the door of their neighbor's home, buckets in hand. Since the family farm was sold years ago, they had to borrow manure from the farm of Jon Dougherty.

Thus began the experiment of deliberately applying manure to T-shirts.

"The first shirts looked awful. When we took them out of the washing machine, they just looked stained," said Patti. "But we kept trying, using the manure and different color dye and we finally found the perfect stain."

“ Almost everyone smells them first and asks if we actually use real manure. I tell them “Yes we use real manure and no, the shirts don’t smell” said Patti.

Sonny even consulted with a veterinarian in Hawaii who said the shirts would be perfectly safe to wear once they were washed.

The shirts are available in a variety of farm colors including Udder Rose, Stanchion Gray, Silage Brown, Apple Drunk Green and Milk House Blue.

The Website www.cowchipshirts.com , also relates stories of growing up on a family farm.

Patti and Sonny were also quite surprised to find that their CowChipShirts were selected to be in Ripley's - Believe It Or Not! Comic strip on April 07, 2005 See it online at http://www.comics.com/comics/ripleys/archive/ripleys-20050407.html

Although the family has had a lot of fun making the shirts, there is a serious side to the whole project as well. On the Web site they wrote, "We believe CowChipShirts represent the strong work ethic and taking responsibility for yourself. CowChipShirts are to be worn as a badge of honor, celebrating working farmers from all around the world."
